Justice for the Angola 3

Call on the Dept. of Justice & Louisiana Governor to Intervene

Herman Wallace and Albert Woodfox endured 35 years of solitary confinement after being framed for a murder that everyone now knows they didn't commit. In the face of mounting public pressure, prison officials moved Herman and Albert to a maximum-security area inside the prison with other inmates. But they are still being held and denied their freedom for daring to speak out against inhumane conditions in Angola.

As with the Jena 6, we're seeing another example of Louisiana's sense of justice—unfair and unaccountable—and funded by our tax dollars. Please join us in demanding a full and fair investigation into the case of the Angola 3 and the Louisiana Prison system.

Here is the text of the message we'll send to U.S. Attorney General Michael B. Mukasey and Louisiana State Governor Bobby Jindal unless you create your own statement.

Dear Attorney General Mukasey & Governor Jindal,

I'm writing to request an investigation into the cases of Herman Wallace, Albert Woodfox, two of the "Angola 3" who have spent more than three decades in solitary confinement.

During the 1970's the Angola 3 organized hunger and work strikes within Louisiana's Angola prison to protest continued segregation, corruption and horrific abuse facing the largely Black prisoner population. Shortly after they spoke out, they were convicted of murdering a prison guard by an all-white jury--since then they have spent over 35 years in solitary confinement. It is now clear that these men were framed to silence their peaceful revolt against inhumane treatment.

Despite overwhelming evidence of their innocence, prison and state officials have refused to intervene. Now is the time to take action--we cannot let the racist status quo prevail in our criminal justice system. The case of the Angola 3 and countless other instances of unequal justice are eroding the values of fairness and humanity that define our democracy.

Please investigate the case of the Angola 3.

Sincerely,

[Your name]
