Marissa Alexander is facing up to 60 years in prison for firing a warning shot in self-defense, to stop her abusive husband. Marissa was sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2012, and after winning her appeal she was set free. Now, Florida State Attorney Angela Corey wants to send Marissa — a domestic violence survivor and Black mother of three — to prison for 60 years.
Corey is known as the "killingest prosecutor," and her track record of racial bias and overly harsh prosecutions is unacceptable. Florida Governor Rick Scott has the power to help free Marissa and suspend Corey for unjustly and excessively punishing her. Demand that Governor Scott condemn the charges against Marissa and suspend Corey.
