Black Activists Praise Conyers For Declaring Fox’s “Disrespect For People Of Color Should No Longer Be Tolerated”

 

ColorOfChange.org calls on other CBC Members to publicly denounce Fox

 

 

ColorOfChange.org today praised Rep. John Conyers for blasting Fox’s “history of on-air mistakes” and “disrespect for people of color” on Tuesday, and called on others in the Congressional Black Caucus to join Conyers in declaring that Fox’s race-baiting “should no longer be tolerated.”

 

This Monday, when reporting on Rep. William Jefferson’s indictment, Fox put the image of Conyers on screen instead of Jefferson. This incident comes in the midst of ongoing controversy over Fox’s marginalization of black leaders and the black community, as documented in film director Robert Greenwald’s recent YouTube videos Fox Attacks: Black America and Fox Attacks: Obama.

 

Conyers’ full statement said: “Fox News has a history of inappropriate on-air mistakes that are neither fair, nor balanced. This type of disrespect for people of color should no longer be tolerated. I am personally offended by the network’s complete disregard for accuracy in reporting and lackluster on-air apology.”

 

“We applaud Chairman Conyers for calling attention to Fox’s history of marginalizing and denigrating black Americans,” said James Rucker, executive director of ColorOfChange.org.  “Today, we’re calling other CBC members to stand with Congressman Conyers and denounce Fox, a network that has called black churches cults, implied repeatedly that Senator Obama is a terrorist, and has used the solemn occasion of Coretta Scott King’s funeral to call black leaders ‘racist.’”
