Support the Gulf Coast Civic Works Act

Tell your member of Congress to make the Gulf Coast Civic Works Act a reality

It's been 3 years since Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans and the Gulf Coast, but the region still hasn't received the help it needs to recover.

The Gulf Coast Civic Works Act would hire 100,000 Gulf Coast residents and evacuees, providing them with training and jobs to rebuild their homes and communities. It's a solution that would give all Katrina survivors a fair chance to rebuild their lives, while revitalizing the Gulf Coast's economy and rebuilding its infrastructure.

But Congress won't approve the plan without a massive show of public support. Please call on your representative to support the Gulf Coast Civic Works Act.

Dear [your Rep's name],

It's been three years since Hurricane Katrina devastated the lives of hundreds of thousands of Americans, many of whom are still displaced.

Now, there's a bold, realistic plan on the table to bring Katrina survivors home and rebuild the Gulf. The Gulf Coast Civic Works Act (HR 4048) would hire 100,000 Katrina survivors to rebuild their homes and communities. It would provide them with temporary housing and job training to help them build and repair houses, schools, parks, and other civic buildings.

HR 4048 provides an opportunity to invest in Americans while reversing the most glaring problems that plague current rebuilding plans: gentrification, government waste, and massive corporate profiteering. It would revitalize the Gulf Coast's economy while rebuilding its infrastructure, and it's a model that could be applied to solve similar problems across the country.

Reps Rodney Alexander (R-LA), Charlie Melancon (D-LA), Gene Taylor (D-MS), the Louisiana Republican Party, and 13 other members of Congress have already signed on in support of HR 4048. What's needed now is leadership to make this plan a reality and fulfill this country's obligation to those it left behind after Katrina.

I'm asking you, as my representative, to sign on as a co-sponsor of the Gulf Coast Civic Works Act and work to ensure its passage.

Signed,

[Your name]
