Stop the Attack on the Poor

Just before Thanksgiving, Republicans pushed through a bill that specifically targets safety-net programs relied upon by the most vulnerable Americans. This week, they plan to introduce legislation that will further increase tax cuts for the wealthiest. Their actions are misguided, shameful, and morally bankrupt.

I am concerned about the drastic cuts to food stamps, child care, and other critical safety net programs specified in HR 4241. For the individuals and families in this nation living in poverty these programs are lifesaving.
I'm calling on you to stand up and fight: to go beyond lessening the damage through negotiation and comprise, to become personally determined to stop legislation that seeks to undermine the safety-net upon which millions of Americans depend. Through the horrors of Hurricane Katrina, and the others that followed, we were promised government leadership for critical human needs. Now I am asking for your leadership.
To me, leading means standing up in the face of injustice and fighting for the most vulnerable and underrepresented. I expect no less from you.
