Color Of Change, the nation’s largest online racial justice organization, issued the following statement in response to Dallas police officer, Amber Guyger being fired after manslaughter charges in a bizarre shooting that killed Botham Jean.

Scott Roberts, Senior Campaign Director at Color Of Change:

“Today’s announcement that Amber Guyger was fired from the Dallas Police Department, after an internal investigation found she engaged in “adverse conduct” is a step forward. However the city of Dallas’ response to the case was unacceptable and slow. It was clear that Amber received preferential treatment throughout this investigation because she was a police officer. Abusive police officers must be held accountable for their actions, just as anyone else would. Botham was murdered without just cause in his own home. The manslaughter charges against Amber Guyger are the bare minimum charges she could get. We need DA Faith Johnson to ensure Guyger is charged with the crime she committed: murder.”
