Color Of Change Demands Social Media Platforms Uphold Trump Ban

Nation’s largest online racial justice organization calls on advertisers to steer clear of platforms willing to amplify far-right extremist content

NATIONWIDE — In response to Donald Trump’s official presidential campaign announcement, Color Of Change Interim Co-Vice President Jade Magnus Ogunnaike released the following statement:

“Donald Trump’s candidacy announcement officially puts Twitter, Meta, Youtube, and other social media platforms on notice to monitor for harmful disinformation. The choice is simple: take a stand against a megaphone for white supremacy or once again place Black communities and our democracy in the crosshairs of a far-right extremist leader and his followers.

There is no acceptable pathway for Trump to return to the platforms that banned him. In the two years since the 2020 election cycle, Trump has intensified his threats against our communities and called for supporters to intimidate Black voters by acting as “guardians of the polls” during the midterm elections.

Color Of Change has already pushed Twitter’s largest corporate advertisers to pause their business relationships with the company. We refuse to stand by and let social media companies dictate policies that prioritize profit over the safety of users – which is exactly why we spearheaded the Black Tech Agenda to outline real legislative solutions to safeguard our elections, push back against the proliferation of disinformation and protect our democracy.

With Trump’s presidential bid now confirmed, we are calling on all advertisers to remain at an arm’s length away from any platform willing to uplift his hateful and inciting language.”
