WHY: Each year, discriminatory policing practices – like the Bloomberg Administration’s use of stop-and-frisk, unlawful searches and surveillance of Muslim communities – target hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers based on race, religion, ethnicity, housing status, immigration status, gender identity or expression and sexual orientation. These and other policing practices and patterns are out of control and the NYPD lacks accountability and oversight.
