“We are pleased that Norton Outdoor has decided to pull these voter suppression billboards and finally acknowledged what we’ve seen all along—the ads were meant to target and intimidate voters of color and to keep these communities from voting. It was too much of a coincidence for these ads to just pop up in swing states, particularly in neighborhoods of color. Although the donors behind the ads remain anonymous, it is clear that these billboards are part of a massive right wing effort to suppress the votes of African Americans, Latinos and other people of color for political gain.

“Thanks to over 130,000 people including more than 67,000 members of ColorOfChange.org who signed petitions demanding that these offensive and dangerous billboards be removed immediately and a coordinated efforts by many groups including the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights under Law and Cleveland City Councilwoman Phyllis Cleveland. Members of CREDO Action, SumOfUs.org, SignOn.org, Video the Vote also participated.”
