“Amy Pascal stepping down from her position as co-chair of Sony Pictures Entertainment is the right decision. In addition to being highly offensive, the contents of her leaked emails speak to a larger marginalization of Black entertainers and exploitation of Black audiences in Hollywood that must end. Nearly 40,000 ColorOfChange members demanded Pascal leave her position. Since then, we’ve engaged in substantive dialogue with executives at the company regarding a path forward for Sony. Today’s announcement is progress, but there’s far more work to be done.

“The problems plaguing Sony and the entertainment industry at large go far beyond Amy Pascal. Pascal stepping down is an important step, but it is just one of many the company must take in order to transform their workplace culture, and affirm for Black entertainers and audiences that their cultural products and $4 billion buying power are valued and respected.

“ColorOfChange is committed to working with industry leaders towards a fair, humanizing media landscape for Black people. We look forward to an ongoing, productive dialogue with Sony Pictures Entertainment in pursuit of a more diverse and inclusive future for the company.”
