“Before the summer ended, GA already seemed to be setting into motion a plan to disenfranchise Black voters. From Secretary of State Brian Kemp’s statement to a group of Gwinnett Republicans in which he warned them that work to register minority voters would allow Democrats to win the midterms– to Georgia Senator Fran Millar writing a racist Facebook rant objecting to the expansion of polling locations and voting hours and bemoaning that he “hopes it can be stopped.”

And now, on Election Day, as Black folks make their way to the polls to raise their voices about the issues that are important to them, we are continuing to receive dismaying news. Since the polls opened this morning, Georgia voters have been confronted by a number of obstacles. Long lines at polling places and the Secretary of State’s website being down for most of the morning created unnecessary confusion and uncertainty in a process that should be anything but. Coupled with Secretary of State Brian Kemp’s refusal to process over 40,000 voter registration forms, we are starting to recognize a calculated attempt to steal this election. This type of chaos cannot become the new normal in our elections.”
