Statement in Support of National Day of Action to Demand Justice for Black Women & Girls

Arisha Hatch, Managing Director of Campaigns, issued the following statement:

“The exclusion of Black women, girls and Trans people from growing conversations about discriminatory policing is highlighted by the very fact that a national day of action is needed to lift up these women’s stories and struggles.”

“Today, as must be done all year, we honor them knowing they represent millions of other Black women and trans people of color who face violence, discrimination and injustice at the hands of law enforcement, doctors, judges, and other state officials every single day.

“By not fighting against state violence impacting Black women and Black Trans women we fail to acknowledge the full scope of police violence and what it means to be Black in America. We must fight to address all the different ways that systemic racism and state violence harm our community, or we will never win.”

“We stand with BYP100 and Ferguson Action in demanding a renewed commitment to securing justice for Rekia Boyd, Tanisha Anderson, Aiyana Stanley Jones, Mya Hall, Kayla Moore and transforming the systems and cultures that threaten Black communities.”
