COLOR OF CHANGE CONDEMNS CONTINUING RESOLUTION THAT UNDERMINES WORKING CLASS PEOPLE
NATIONAL – Just moments ago, the Senate approved a continuing resolution bill to prevent a shutdown and keep the American government funded through September. While a clean continuing resolution would maintain federal funding levels, this continuing resolution included cuts to essential programs critical for Black families.
Portia Allen-Kyle, Interim Executive Director of Color Of Change, issued the following statement:
“Today’s vote makes clear that there are folks on both sides of the aisle that have no interest in serving working class people and Black communities will pay the price. During this process, all good-faith negotiations were taken off the table. Now, we must turn to our local and state elected officials to fill the gaps left by an increasingly unsustainable and unreliable federal government. A single resolution does not define this fight for our future, but it was the fight we had at the moment and an opportunity to stop this administration, disastrous agenda, and power grab that will reshape the function of government for generations. Now is the time for elected officials to prove they’re up to the challenge and will stand with our communities—for our children, for our veterans, for our seniors, and for all people. Color Of Change will continue to hold leaders accountable by demanding a future that prioritizes opportunities for all people to thrive over greed, and dignity over profit.”
