COLOR OF CHANGE CONDEMNS RECONCILIATION PACKAGE THAT CUTS ESSENTIAL PROGRAMS SERVING MILLIONS OF BLACK FAMILIES
NATIONAL – Yesterday, the House approved a budget package that seeks to give trillions in handouts to the ultra-wealthy and cut access to safety-net programs that provide critical resources to Black families.
Portia Allen-Kyle, Interim Executive Director of Color Of Change, issued the following statement:
“Despite millions of people using their voice across the country to oppose budget cuts to Medicaid, SNAP, Social Security and essential services, Republicans in Congress passed a budget resolution that rejects the needs of working families and Black communities. Those in power have determined that a neo-segregationist agenda that puts profit over people is worth sacrificing our children and grandparents to help billionaires become trillionaires. There is no amount of messaging or spin that will trick us out of what we feel in our wallets and bank accounts. Color Of Change will continue to mobilize our members in opposition to any attacks on our families and communities. We will also keep our eye on state and local policymakers, who will inevitably make critical decisions about maintaining support of services that impact the most vulnerable among us as federal funding becomes unreliable and increasingly scarce. The federal government has made an explicit decision to abdicate its duties for the people. It is clear that we cannot depend on the current leaders of the federal government to protect the interests of our community, but we will continue to support one another.”
