COLOR OF CHANGE AND AMPLIFY GEORGIA COLLABORATIVE PARTNER HOST LOCAL TOWN HALLS IN GEORGIA TO PROTECT REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS AND HEALTHCARE ACCESS
NATIONAL – Color Of Change and the Amplify Georgia Collaborative, in partnership with various civil rights and health advocacy groups organized two town halls in the state of Georgia to discuss access to reproductive care. Hosted on October 7 in Augusta, and October 8 in Columbus, these events brought together state legislators, advocates, and community members to engage around these issues.
In addition to hearing from experts and the public, Amplify Georgia and Color Of Change launched their website StopPolicingPregnancy.org to the attendees, a website meant to share information and disseminate resources to those who want to advocate for improvements in reproductive access in their neighborhoods. The events also mobilized guests to participate in two current campaigns and related legislation meant to create change in Georgia: the Reproductive Freedom Act to restore and expand abortion access, and the Fake Clinics Suck campaign to stop the deceptive practices of fake clinics, also known as crisis pregnancy centers.
The town halls were attended by 70 local residents, including Senate Minority Leader Harold Jones who spoke at the proceedings in Augusta.
In the weeks before the town halls, Amplify Georgia and Color Of Change displayed social media advertisements and local billboards to raise awareness about critical issues including the criminalization of miscarriage, and the importance of abortion access and freedom of choice.
Amplify Georgia and Color Of Change were supported by Men4Choice, Reproductive Freedom for All, SPARK Reproductive Justice Now, URGE, and Feminist Center for Reproductive Liberation for the town halls.
