COC at the CBCF Annual Legislative Conference
Rashad Robinson, president of Color Of Change, recently spoke on a National Town Hall panel at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s 51st Annual Legislative Conference in Washington.
The conference theme: “Advancing Our Purpose, Elevating Our Power.”
More than 10,000 people attended the weekend event held Sept. 28 through Oct. 2 in Washington.
The town hall focused on Black political progress, lessons learned and strategic partnerships to advance Black liberation in the 50 years since Black leaders from across the nation gathered at the seminal National Black Political Convention in Gary, Indiana, in March 1972 seeking a unified vision and strategy for Black America.
Joining Robinson on the panel were Mayor Steven L. Reed of Montgomery, Alabama; Congresswoman Terri Sewell of Alabama; Professor Eddie S. Glaude Jr. of Princeton University; political strategist Donna Brazile, former chair of the Democratic National Committee; actress Jenifer Lewis; and activist Alicia Garza, a co-founder of the international Black Lives Matter movement.
Robinson and the other panelists urged listeners to take action.
“Our country has to grow up,” Robinson told the audience. “We have to confront its refusal to acknowledge what has been done, and what our country continues to do.”
Color Of Change also had a booth at the conference’s exhibit hall with information about the organization’s latest efforts to foster racial justice.
