New York, NY — “We commend AFSCME’s courage in taking a stand against United Negro College Fund (UNCF) for their decision to accept money from the Koch brothers. As the only national Black civil rights organization that doesn’t take big corporate money, ColorOfChange knows all too well how challenging these decisions can be.

We are sure the UNCF’s decision to accept the Koch brothers’ donation was difficult. However, the fact remains that charity is not justice, and those like the Koch brothers that spend their lives advancing an agenda that puts our communities in harms way will never give us enough money in the name of charity to overturn their agenda.

It is not surprising that the Koch brothers are throwing money at the UNCF; in fact, it is their modus operandi. They’re banking on their deep pockets to unlock the doors of power and influence in order to promote their dangerous agenda.

The Koch brothers’ alleged altruistic intentions ring hollow when we look at their track record. $25 million, a mere drop in the bucket of their immense wealth, does not erase the years they’ve spent forcing their oppressive ideals on America. The UNCF needs not play into their hands.”
