COLOR OF CHANGE DEMANDS END OF ELON MUSK’S TOXIC AI SUPERCOMPUTER IN SOUTH MEMPHIS

NATIONAL Elon Musk’s toxic AI supercomputer “Colossus” in South Memphis’s Boxtown, a primarily Black neighborhood in Tennessee, is threatening the health, safety, and wellbeing of Black people.

Consistent concerns have been raised from local organizations and residents over the last few months that Colossus would worsen pollution in the neighborhood.

In response, Portia Allen-Kyle, Interim Executive Director of Color Of Change, issued the following statement:

“People die when they can’t breathe clean air. And right now, Elon Musk’s supercomputer threatens to do just that—worsening the air quality for Black families in South Memphis. No amount of tax revenue, job opportunities, or technological ‘progress’ justifies slowly killing Black people. We applaud the tireless efforts of community members and local organizers who have shown up at town halls, organized, and demanded accountability–not just from xAI, but from the city and county officials who’ve allowed toxic environmental risks to threaten entire neighborhoods. Color Of Change stands with those on the front lines in Memphis and we extend our support.”
