Color Of Change: Grammy Nominations Signal Industry Movement Towards Racial Justice
Rashad Robinson, President of Color Of Change, issued the following statement in response to the announcement of the 2021 Grammy nominations:
“In a year of uprising, sickness, and distance, music has been both a healing force and a call to action. It’s helped us process our pain, traverse great distances, and drive social change. That’s why it’s particularly rewarding this year to see more Black artists receive Grammy nominations. While these nominations signal progress, there is still so much work to be done. We are committed and excited to continue our #ChangeMusic partnership with The Recording Academy to make sure this presence is translated into power at every level of the industry.
“Black creators and professionals have always led the music industry in innovation and creativity, while too often being shut out of positions of power and leadership. Thanks to years of activism and advocacy from within the industry, we’re on a path to change that.
“We look forward to the release of more pieces of our #ChangeMusic partnership in the coming months to support the music industry’s movement towards racial justice. With these new changes, we know that this is only the beginning of justice and equity for Black creators and professionals in the music industry.”
