COLOR OF CHANGE REACTS TO HOUSE VOTE APPROVING RECONCILIATION BILL THAT THREATENS THE LIVELIHOODS OF BLACK FAMILIES

NATIONAL This morning, the House passed Donald Trump’s budget reconciliation in a vote 215 to 214. The bill’s passage threatens vital services for Black individuals and families, including healthcare, food, and education.

Portia Allen-Kyle, Interim Executive Director of Color Of Change, issued the following statement:

“Under the cover of darkness, House Republicans passed a budget proposal that will make Black families poorer, hungrier, and sicker by increasing our costs, cutting school lunch programs, taking away people’s healthcare, and blocking enforcement of all state and local legislation for AI systems and models for a full decade. Despite hundreds of thousands of calls and emails from constituents, meetings with House members, and grassroots organizing of concerned Americans across the country over several months, House Republicans continue to cast aside the needs and livelihoods of everyday people to advance Donald Trump’s scheme to turn billionaires into trillionaires.”

“The stakes are high and our fight is not over. This bill is extremely unpopular and our members will continue fighting to stop this dangerous budget. We remain committed to protecting our people, even when our own government refuses to.”
