COLOR OF CHANGE REACTS TO MSNBC ENDING JOY REID’S SHOW “THE REIDOUT”

Portia Allen-Kyle, Interim Executive Director of Color Of Change, issued the following statement:

“In a bid to curry favor with the current administration, MSNBC decided to go back to a playbook it knows far too well: silencing Black women who speak truth to power. Whether it was Melissa Harris-Perry refusing to be tokenized or Tiffany Cross speaking up about issues impacting Black communities, MSNBC’s decision is a betrayal not just of Black journalists and Black audiences but of truth itself. Color Of Change stands firmly with Joy Reid because Black voices are not disposable.

Uncompromising storytellers who speak truth to power are required in any efforts for our freedom. MSNBC’s decision comes at a time when neo-segregationist attacks are accelerating across every sector and enemies of truth are attempting to start a self-proclaimed ‘Golden Age’ of storytelling in America that does not include Black people or Black stories. MSNBC’s decision is not just shameful; it’s dangerous. Silencing truth-tellers does not make the truth go away. It only makes clear who is complicit in trying to suppress it.”
