Color Of Change Calls For Halt of Gorsuch Hearings & Other Nominees

New York, NY – Citing new revelations that the FBI is investigating Donald Trump for his administration’s ties to Russia, Color Of Change—the nation’s largest online racial justice group—is demanding that hearings for Neil Gorsuch and all other Trump nominees be put on hold.

“There is a strong possibility that President Trump gained power through illegal means,” said Rashad Robinson, Executive Director of Color Of Change. “His actions in office have been systemically destructive to our communities, and our rights as Americans. As long as these allegations remain unresolved we cannot in good conscience allow this administration to conduct business as usual.”

Trump’s agenda has been devastating for Black communities. Along with Attorney General Jeff Sessions he has pursued “law and order” tactics that repudiate safety and justice-oriented policies like eliminating ineffective mandatory minimums. His promise to repeal the Affordable Care Act threatens the very lives of the nearly 6.8 million Black Americans who have become eligible for quality health coverage since the law’s implementation. And his proposed budget will slash programs that are vital for Black communities, from the Legal Services Corporation to Meals on Wheels.

Color Of Change, which has one of the largest followings of engaged Black voters online, has seen strong support from its membership to call on members of Congress to put a “hiring freeze” on Gorsuch and Trump’s other nominees and to investigate Trump’s ties to Russia. Color Of Change joins a spectrum of leading progressive groups calling on Congress to reject new nominees until voters know the truth about the President.
