Trump Fails

Leading racial justice group condemns vote to take away healthcare, demands Senate vote “no” to racist bill

WASHINGTON– After a failed effort to pass a bill that would take healthcare away from millions of Black Americans, Color Of Change—the nation’s largest online racial justice group—condemns the discredited agenda of Donald Trump and House Republicans.

“Trump failed today,” said Rashad Robinson, Executive Director of Color Of Change. “He failed in every way. He failed to advance a key part of his illegitimate, racist agenda. He failed to strip healthcare from the millions of Black Americans who gained insurance under Obamacare. He failed to pass a $600 billion tax cut for himself and his cronies on their corrupt business dealings with Russia.

“We’re going to keep standing up to this failed agenda. Black voters are committed to challenging this criminal administration that puts our very freedoms and rights as Americans at risk. And we expect our representatives and Senators to do the same by putting a hiring freeze on Trump’s nominees. This is a President who may have won the election illegally, and any elected official who enables its agenda is putting our very democracy at risk.”

Paul Ryan and Donald Trump’s bill would compromise the health of millions of Black Americans. It would raise premiums drastically for Black seniors and low-income Black people, and its cuts to Medicaid funding would endanger the over 10 million Black Americans who are insured under the program.

“We’ve seen a tremendous uprising by Black communities against this draconian bill because millions of lives are at stake,” said Robinson. “Today’s vote shows that Trump and his coalition cannot easily make their dangerous, compromised vision for America a reality. Black people will not stand for Trump’s rejection of our fundamental rights as Americans, and we will continue to remind both members of Congress and governors that they’re accountable to us, not Donald Trump.”

For the last few weeks Color Of Change has led a mass mobilization of members to demand that Congress reject Trumpcare. Members have made calls and signed petitions to offices demanding accountability from their elected officials. In states, Color Of Change has been partnering with local advocates, demanding governors speak out against the Paul Ryan and Donald Trump’s destructive bill.
