NEW YORK, NY – Color Of Change, the nation’s largest online racial justice organization, issued the following statement in response to the Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner’s decision to not seek money bail for 33 low-level charges.
Rashad Robinson, Executive Director of Color Of Change:
“District Attorney Larry Krasner’s decision to not seek money bail for low-level charges is a necessary step to end a racist and corrupt system. Eliminating cash bail for minor offenses will help stop forcing people to buy their freedom and will curb bail insurance companies from profiting off the detainment of Black people. But DA Krasner’s progress must go beyond Philadelphia. It is not enough for progressive DAs to only voice support for reform, they must follow Krasner’s lead in refusing to seek cash bail. This announcement proves that because Black communities have organized powerfully, made their voices heard at the polls, and demanded accountability, we’re starting to see the changes needed to make our justice system more fair.”
