Color Of Change, the nation’s largest online racial justice organization, issued the following statement regarding the anniversary of Michael Brown’s death.

“Today marks four years since Michael Brown’s slaying and justice has yet to prevail. Tragically, the pattern of racist violence targeting Black people did not begin or end in Ferguson. Since Mike Brown’s murder, thousands of Black families have lost a loved one to police violence and discriminatory mass incarceration. This is not a problem that can be solved with piecemeal reforms. We cannot afford anything less than the most far-reaching structural reforms.
Michael Brown’s tragic death ignited a new generation of activist and is considered one of the flash points in the modern civil rights movement. The people of Ferguson and St. Louis County just made their power known on Tuesday by electing justice candidate Wesley Bell for district prosecutor. Ousting incumbent Bob McCulloch, the 27-year-long gatekeeper of injustice, is a step in the right direction—but there’s still more work to do.
Mother of the Movement, Lezley McSpadden, continues to relentlessly demand a special prosecutor for her son, Mike Brown’s murder and is requesting the case be reopened. We stand with Lezley and tens of thousands of Color Of Change members demanding Missouri Governor Mike Parson reopen the investigation into the fatal shooting of Mike Brown.”
