NEW YORK – Rashad Robinson, Executive Director of Color Of Change, the nation’s largest online racial justice organization, issued the following statement in response to the Senate’s vote to confirm Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court.

“Today Senate Republicans voted to turn back the clock on our country by confirming Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court. Gorsuch is a dangerous and reckless pick. As a federal judge he even went so far as to condone a trucking company which argued that a Black employee should have remained with a broken trailer and risk freezing to death rather than leaving to protect himself. From our right to vote to reproductive rights, Gorsuch’s lifetime appointment poses a grave threat to our freedoms.

“Neil Gorsuch would never have even been confirmed if Senate Republicans had not tossed out the chamber’s rules in their zeal to install an extremist on our nation’s highest court. These legislators have cast their lot with President Trump, ignoring the possibility that he won the presidency by illegal means and confirming his nominee before the important investigations that are underway conclude. That’s why Color of Change has stood against this nomination from day one and called for a hiring freeze on this administration. Instead, Senate Republicans have made their position clear. They have unapologetically joined Trump’s corrupt plot to take away our rights and freedoms.
